The 9H rating comes from the pencil hardness test, the Wolff-Wilborn method standardised as ASTM D3363, which measures resistance to being scratched by pencils of increasing hardness (ASTM). The scale tops out at 9H, so "9H" means the coating resisted the hardest pencil in the test (IGL Coatings). A "10H" graphene claim sits beyond that standard scale, so treat it as a manufacturer's own rating, not a higher reading on the same official test. Either way, the hardness number describes scratch resistance during washing and against fine grit. It does not mean the coating is scratch-proof, and it does not mean it can stop a stone chip.
